Heart Rate Monitor Fitness Information

Almost everyone would like to change something about their body. Many want to slim down, lose fat, develop more muscle tone - in general, just look better. But physical fitness also opens the door to a healthier, more active and energetic lifestyle. Everyone understands the merits of having a physically fit body...but how can you get there? Use heart rate monitor fitness to meet all your fitness goals.

Heart rate monitors are becoming more and more popular in gyms and workout classes. Wearing a heart rate monitor on wrist (like a watch) or workout clothes (in the strapless variety) may seem like a small thing, but heart rate monitor fitness can change the way you look at exercising. By using this small, simple tool, you can get the most out of your workout and meet your personal fitness goals.

Because they are becoming more widely used, heart rate monitors for fitness training are getting less expensive and more chock-full of features all the time. Now, you can see your heart rate by number or percentage, and displays are easy to access with one-touch buttons. Many heart rate monitors designed for fitness will show you the calories you burn, and even show targeted heart rates on the display. Using a heart rate monitor in your fitness program will help you stay on track with your workout. The more effective your workout, the easier it will be to reach those slim, toned, physically fit results. The results are the reason you exercise, right?

Fitness with a heart rate monitor is fitness made simple. Use this small device to learn if you're reaching your target heart rate, and how much time you're spending there. After going through your normal workout routine only once, you'll have the right tool to begin making changes that can help you custom-design a workout that's best for your body. Using a heart rate monitor to help you with physical fitness is as good as having your own personal trainer - only better, because this tool can tell you exactly how many calories you're burning.

Best of all, you can use your heart rate monitor to work on physical fitness anywhere. Take it to the gym, out on a jog, or use it inside your own home. Most heart rate monitors store past recordings, so that you can look at your workouts over a period of time. You'll be able to design an exercise routine that really helps you get the most out of your workout. When you're getting the most out of your routine, you're producing results. With a heart rate monitor, the body you want is much, much easier to obtain.

Heart rate monitors are extremely popular, so it's easy to find products and product reviews online. Any search engine will yield results, so with a few clicks of your mouse you can start comparing and shopping for heart rate monitors. Even if you don't buy over the Internet, you can still read product reviews, compare prices, and get a good idea of what kind of heart rate monitor you want. Using a small, handheld monitor as part of your fitness program will help you spend more quality minutes working out - so you can spend all your other quality minutes enjoying the results.

How Treadmills Compare To Other Types Of Home Fitness Equipment

When it comes to exercise, people like to walk or run. These are natural activities for us. They can have practical applications, such as getting from one place to another. They require less gear than many other forms of exercise (although you can spend a bundle on shoes, clothes and other accessories if you really wanted). And walking or running are great forms of exercise. They burn calories, work many muscle groups and strengthen cardiovascular components in the body. Walking is one of the best or perhaps the only feasible form of exercise for people with diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension and chronic back pain. Walking doesn't require a lot of technical know-how or instruction. We already know how to do it, and a few pointers about heart rate and breathing will at least get us on the road. In general, walking and running are easy and convenient ways to improve health and fitness and a home treadmill adds to this overall appeal.

According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, over 40 million consumers purchase treadmills each year and the number continues to grow. Treadmills account for over 1/3 of all home exercise equipment sales. So why do so many people choose treadmills and how do they compare to stair machines, stationary bikes and other home fitness equipment?

Ease and Convenience

The number one reason people use a treadmill is convenience. It allows you to exercise even when the weather is bad or the fitness center is closed. You can exercise in the early morning or after dinner or whenever the mood strikes you. You can even use your treadmill in the buff if you don't feel like washing your workout clothes.

You can read, watch TV, talk with friends, or listen to music or audiotapes while you exercise on a treadmill. You can keep an eye on your kids, wait for files to download, take care of dinner or the laundry and even meditate, think through problems or make grocery lists.

For those who need to stay in the office until five - even when it's not busy, or who prefer to exercise in the privacy of their own homes, a treadmill is ideal. Also, in some areas and neighborhoods, walking or running exposes one to traffic, muggers or vicious dogs. These hazards are avoided by using a treadmill.

Another reason people like treadmills is because you can just hop on and walk without a great deal of preparation and even if you don't work terribly hard at it, you still accomplish something. But today's treadmills make it easy to program in workout routines that simulate hills or vary speeds to enhance the effectiveness of your workout or challenge you to work harder and improve. The control panels are typically user friendly and many machines have built in heart rate monitors.

Clearly a treadmill provides several advantages over walking or running outside. And it is often easier and less expensive than other types of home exercise equipment, but how does it compare in terms of pure cardiovascular workout and calorie burning?

A Better Burn

According to a study done by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, a person using a treadmill for 60 minutes burns an average of 865-705 calories. Check that against other common exercise equipment:

· stair machine 746-637 calories burned

· rowing machine 739-606 calories burned

· stationary cycle 604-5956 calories burned

· cross-country ski machine 678-595 calories burned

Treadmill vs Elliptical Machine

What about the new elliptical machines? An elliptical cross trainer with handles to work the upper body provides a workout that compares to that of a treadmill when it comes to muscles used and heart rate issues. The main difference between the two types of home exercise equipment is that and elliptical machine operates more smoothly and creates less of an impact on bones and joints. This might be good for those with recent injuries or chronic conditions, but it is the impact that helps maintain or improve bone density, which in turn strengthens bones and prevents the loss of calcium.

Most experts agree that a healthy person needs the bouncing and jarring associated with walking or running to keep bones, muscles and joints working properly. A treadmill is one of the few home fitness machines that provide this type of exercise. And most come with a cushioned platform to minimize impact or keep it at an acceptable level. As with any form of exercise, it is a good idea to check with your doctor first if you have health conditions that may make it difficult or unwise for you to participate in certain activities.

With a treadmill, the concept is basically simple. If you want to work harder, you increase the incline or the speed. Usually this is done with a push of the button. An elliptical machine can be adjusted to target certain muscle groups, but it requires some knowledge and usually must be done manually. And because elliptical machines are relatively new to the home fitness market, there are fewer models to choose from and they tend to cost a bit more than the average treadmill. Some people have commented that they feel the elliptical machines can be more difficult to use because the motions do not feel as natural as walking or running. It is a good idea to try out any piece of exercise equipment before buying to see how it feels and fits with your needs.

Many people who exercise do so because they know they should, not because they thoroughly enjoy it. Sure you feel good after you complete your workout, but sometimes getting motivated can be difficult. And if you are going to put in the time, you want to know that what you're doing is actually helping you burn calories and become more fit. Treadmills rank at the top of the list when it comes to home fitness equipment, providing one of the most effective workouts in proportion to the amount of time spent. So make your movements count. Try a treadmill.

Fitness Tips For Fall

Fall is here but does that mean that your fitness goals will be blown way like the leaves from the trees?

Exercising at the gym can yield some amazing results, but if you have not done this before you may feel uneasy about starting. It is easy to think that everyone knows what they are doing apart from yourself. You may worry about looking a klutz, or imagine that your body does not look as good as others, or whether you are able to do the exercises.

At the outset this is usually OK because most gyms will break you in gently just to show you the various exercise machines but later you may become confused unless you have engaged a personal trainer. You may even find yourself in the unfortunate position of not being able to remember what has been shown you and further add to your embarrassment.

Stand back for a second and remember that these feelings are not unique to you - everyone joining the gym for the first time feels the same. As each day passes your confidence will grow and within time you'll be strolling through your gym exercises with all the poise of a consummate fitness pro!

Try these fitness tips to help you through your fledgling stages:

1. If you're a rank amateur, you may consider engaging a trainer to start of with until you become more experienced or alternatively go along to the training classes with a friend, so that way you can both learn together.

2. Decide which days you are going to go to the gym, and make a contract with yourself that nothing short of an emergency will stop you from going. The idea is to make going to the gym a habit just like taking a shower or brushing your teeth. Over the passage of time your persistence will be rewarded as the new dynamic, physically fit individual emerges.

3. Don't rely on your memory when a staff member is showing you how to use the machines at the initial lesson but instead take a few brief notes so that when you come back you have a record of what machine does what and how you should operate it and for how long.

4. Remember to wear loose clothes or clothes with plenty of stretch. Many people go out and buy workout clothes that are too tight in anticipation of their new weight reduced size, but when the weight reduction takes longer than anticipated the tight clothing can be a constant nag.

5. Many people get hung up over being over weight - don't be! In some respects it is better to be a few pounds overweight as your results will be more noticeable than for slim people and you will find this will motivate you to carry on with your routine with increased vigour. Be sure and take a photo of yourself before you start exercising so that you have a before and after record of your success!

6. Take it east to start with. The danger is to push yourself to the max straight away become fatigued and take a day of to recover. Missing a session occasionally is OK but miss too many and you may just decide not to continue. So initially at least take your time and work at your own pace then you can increase your tempo as your stamina increases.

7. For some of us that are carrying a few more pounds than we should we may have a problem with our stomachs being too large to fit behind some of the exercise machines - don't despair! Try building up your fitness and losing some weight on the treadmill to begin with before moving on to some of the other machines. Also consider swimming as an occasional alternative to gym exercise.

8. Most gyms and health clubs want repeat customers so don't be afraid to ask the staff questions. If you have forgotten how to use a particular machine or how to set it up for your height and weight make sure that you get someone to help you - they need your business, so ask!

9. When using a treadmill if you find your knee and ankle joints complaining when you increase the speed try increasing the gradient instead. It might surprise you to learn that with the treadmill on an incline and on a slower speed you will burn more calories than if you go jogging.

10. You need to push yourself a little to make progress but don't be too hard on yourself either. Try exercising twenty minutes on the treadmill, then increase the speed or incline to push your envelope slightly. If you want to succeed at anything you have to put the work in!

Cardiovascular Fitness

Cardiovascular fitness is at the top of the list for those who want to get fit and stay fit. Weight loss efforts are maximized with cardio fitness and can be a great way to enjoy your surroundings and friends.

One method of getting a great workout is by swimming. Swimming is ideal for those who want a low-impact exercise that also provides cardio benefits.

People who have joint disorders find that swimming is a great way to stay in shape and lose weight without further damaging their joints while burning the most calories.

Another low-impact workout is walking. Walking at least an hour a day can have its benefits. It provides people who have mobility issues to take their time and walk at their own pace. Unlike swimming, walking provides a little less of a cardio workout but consistency is the key if you want to see results.

Jogging has long been regarded as a good way to stay fit for active people. With the heart rate elevated, the jogger can burn fat faster and gain an overall body fitness. The downside to jogging compared to walking is the impact it has on the joints and for those who are not in great shape, jogging may not be as beneficial to them.

Biking on the other hand is an in between cardio workout that provides the benefits needed such as increased heart rate and ability to burn calories while being easier on the joints than either walking or jogging. Biking is also a great way to travel while you exercise and can save on the cost of gas.

For the social aspect of working out why not try basketball or even tennis? Both these activities provide a good cardio workout and they each have their own specific areas of the body that is concentrated on. Basketball provides a workout for your legs because you must remain in motion throughout the game.

Tennis on the other hand provides more of an upper body workout and while it too is a good cardio fitness regimen, most people do it for the social benefits it brings. They get to spend time with their friends.

You can try any of these basic workouts to increase your fitness level and have a healthy heart in the process.

Home Fitness Gym - No Longer the Rusty Old Machine

As many of you may remember the home fitness gym of years ago was probably taking up the majority of space in a garage and the equipment was old and rusty. You might have wanted to make sure you had your last Tetanus shot before going out in the hot garage for a rusty old workout.

Well times have certainly changed. Today you may find state of the art pieces of equipment or not a single use of expensive equipment. In either case you can still achieve ultimate physical fitness with the focus on core body fitness.

As many have probably heard about or possibly purchased the P90x system is a new home workout system that focuses on core body fitness with few pieces of affordable home workout equipment. With just a couple of barbells and a workout rubber band you can have a six pack in no time. Well, let's not got that far as it all takes time, right?

Most fitness experts recommend some type of weight resistance along with cardio equipment to have a home gym. Now this can be the start of a very expensive shopping spree since major exercise systems with weight stacks can cost at least $1,000. Then, on the cardio front, a treadmill or elliptical machine can run $1,000 and an exercise bike will even run $500. You can't tell me we are still in the age of spending thousands of dollars on equipment that will likely be doubling as a clothes line, are we?

Before jumping on the home fitness bandwagon one major consideration that must be addressed is diet. As we all know the vast majority of our results is what goes in our mouth. Are we really ready to give up the daily desert or midnight snack? If not, this could be a waste of time and money.

This leads us into the ever dreaded but so important topic of goal setting. If we can't (or maybe won't is more like it) set goals we are going to be in trouble. Goal setting is very cliche and it's all we hear about when it comes to fitness, or work, or simply life in general. But, you can't argue that people who set goals get better results. Perhaps we just need to sit down and do it and not make such a fuss about it.

A good question some may be asking is how do I get away from the TV, cell phone, kids at home, pets at home, the neighbor at the door, etc. and get a workout done. Well you do need to limit distractions as these workout intruders and sure to show their ugly faces otherwise. A good way to limit these distractions is to have an isolated area for the home gym. Now, you don't need a full on room dedicated to the gym but you need an area that lets you get the job done.

So we have our equipment, limited our distractions and are eating good but after a few days it's getting OLD. What to do? There are several things to do. Pick up a workout buddy. Drag your neighbor or relative off the couch and make them join you. Maybe pay them a few bucks to do so. The buddy system works here. You can also find affordable DVD's that you follow and those keep you going. And maybe that TV distraction isn't such a bad thing when you have five more minutes of jogging in place to do. Now that sounds like a good idea.

To expand on jogging in place you don't need big bucks for a killer home gym. Let me repeat that. You don't need thousands of dollars for a home gym. Barbells and rubber bands are cheap. A garage sale can get you a cheap bench as well. Further, walking, running in place, push-ups and crunches are all equipment free and great exercises. Finally, if you have a young one in the house glued to that gaming system perhaps the Wii Fitness joins your arsenal of workout tools and you can also have some quality time with the kids.

Top Fitness Models Have Discipline - Can You Achieve That Same Body If You Have the Same Commitment?

Yes! It isn't a big mystery how top fitness models get their form although fitness magazines would like you to think it is.

The biggest difference between the models and you is the level of discipline. If your career depending on how your body looked, couldn't you too find the motivation to work out?

Can you imagine being paid to look good? What a life that would be.

Top fitness models are paid to do just that - look great.

Can you adopt their attitude? I bet you can.

To achieve the level of discipline of these women who are in peak physical fitness, you need to think like they do.

Tell yourself that your livelihood depends on how fit you are. Give yourself a "paycheck" for every week that you meet your workout goals. That paycheck could be any treat (that is not food related) that makes you feel rewarded.

Some of my favorite "paychecks" are massages, especially foot and hand massages, new workout clothes, costume jewelry and new music or a book.

Start with small "paychecks" and as your goals get increasingly harder, give yourself "pay raises." Make your rewards bigger.

Think how long it takes to get a raise at your day job. If you are extremely lucky you get one a year.

As your own body boss, you can give yourself a raise every sixty or ninety days. Wow!

So think like a hot fitness model. Get paid for looking great. Get more "raises" than you do from you day job. Plus you get BENEFITS.

I bet you will even get better Benefits than your fulltime employer gives you. Here are the benefits you get:

Better health - you cannot start a regular exercise routine and not achieve better health. Fitness and health go hand in hand.

Good moods - when you workout you stimulate your endorphins which are the "good mood" hormones. You will come away from your workout feeling great and this good mood will last for hours. The more often you work out, the longer you can sustain your good mood.

Lose weight - do I really need to say anything here? I bet your employer doesn't offer you a weight loss benefit.

Kickin' body - the more you workout, the more defined your muscles will become. Muscles are beautiful. (I am not talking about being a pumped up bodybuilder.) Hot fitness models have gorgeous bodies. You are getting paid and looking beautiful as a result!

Greater energy - as you build up your workout endurance, you will find you have great energy throughout the day. Who can't use that. If you do notice you are feeling tired often, look at what you are eating. Chances are your diet is not giving you the nutrition you need to support your physical fitness routine.

Peace of mind - working out kills off that "guilt" gremlin. You know that feeling you get when you realize you haven't done anything healthy all day? That will go away and be replaced by peace of mind when you stick to your exercise routine. You will know that you have achieved your daily goal and you will be proud of it.Now you know, you too can be just like a hot fitness model and get paid for working out and looking great. You will not only be rewarded with "paychecks," you will get amazing "employment" benefits. You get guaranteed raises and don't have to worry about your benefits being decreased.

I want you to think like a top fitness model and get going!

Home Fitness Equipment is the Ultimate in Convenience

Are you encountering increasing challenges in your attempts to try to eke out the time to schedule a workout on a daily basis? Have you found that by the time you get to your house, change into workout clothes and drive over to the gym, that you could have completed a work out and had a shower, if you only had your own home fitness equipment at your disposal?

While it is true that the huge variety of commercial fitness equipment available to you at the gym is wonderful, the inconvenience often completely negates that advantage. For time savings and convenience, there is simply nothing better than having home fitness equipment, so that you can get the workout done and have no excuses for skipping it.

For a long time it seemed that having a setup of effective home fitness equipment was really very much of a luxury because of both the high cost and because of the amount of space required to use it correctly. But, these days things are different. There are many options to choose from in home gym equipment that are both affordable and also compact, making it possible for most people to have some form of fitness equipment in their house.

One of the best benefits to having your own fitness equipment, in addition to saving time and being convenient, is that you are also able to exercise in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Are you tired of having to listen to the annoying music of other people at the gym, or of being subjected to watching soap operas or talk shows that someone else has chosen?

Working out from the comfort of your house allows you to be in control of your environment, where you can listen to your choice of music or your favorite television show without having to negotiate or worry about offending the person at the neighboring treadmill.

Just about every person who has undertaken a new fitness regimen has also found a whole slew of new excuses when it comes time to get into the workout wear and trudge over to the gym. With the exercise gear in your house, you automatically kill a number of favorite excuses and if you have someone in the house to nudge you, you will virtually eliminate all justifications you can fabricate to avoid working out.

Ultimately, this will result in you working out more often and will help to make the attainment of your fitness goals much easier.

With all of those wonderful benefits to having your own exercise gear in your house, the one big challenge is often finding the space in your living quarters to house a home fitness center. Many of the best machines are also what people consider to be space hogs and can dominate a room easily.

However, many models of home exercise equipment have become more compact as manufacturers have become more aware of this constraint. Also, many have been designed to store easily and can be folded up or rolled away for quick storage. With a bit of creativity and determination, almost anyone can find a few square feet to accommodate a home fitness exercise unit.

There is certainly no lack of choices when it comes to outfitting your home fitness equipment center. Some of the more popular fitness machines for your home are things such as: elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, treadmills, stair climbers, ab and rowing machines.

Additionally, there are a number of different whole-body machines that can do the work of two or three different pieces of equipment.
