Ten Powerful Tips to Build The Body of Your Dreams

1. VISUALIZE THE BODY YOU WANT BY USING YOUR INNER POWER

Many professional athletes practice visualization, which means picturing themselves going through the motions to achieve a certain goal -complete with sounds, colors, tastes and smells - and have seen it pay off big time. It really works. What you can conceive in your soul and create in your mind, you WILL EXPERIENCE with your body! During my 10 years as a professional athlete, I spent 10 minutes a day visualizing my body the way I wanted it to look and feel, the result that I mentally conceived in the visualization were experienced in my training sessions, making them tremendously intensive and effective. Now, whenever I work out, I close my eyes and visualize whatever I wish to accomplish in my workouts.

"As I use my inner power to visualize my outer looks, I create the perfect environment to materialize the image of the body I want."

2. SET REALISTIC GOALS

You aren't likely to hear some rookie say he plans to win the Olympia championship when they finished in last place the year before and he has yet to get off the bench. In other words, most professional athletes set realistic goals. So face it: You are not going to lose 30 pounds by your 10-year class reunion next weekend. (A more realistic goal is approximately two pounds per week.) Focus on taking one baby step at a time, keeping your ultimate goal in mind. It will be all the more rewarding when you finally get there!

3. FIND A WORKOUT THAT WORKS FOR YOU

My challenge after retirement was to maintain the weight and body fat composition I had achieved as an elite athlete. No easy task when you're working a full-time job, right? Because keeping in shape also means aerobic activities, my body was used to fast, quick, blood flow - something pedaling on the stationery bike or walking/running on a treadmill couldn't match. But then I came to believe that a simple pair of dumbbells could do wonders. When time is an issue (and when isn't it?), you need to focus on finding workouts that give you the biggest bang for the buck.

4. CHECK YOUR FUEL GAUGE

While you'd never put sugar in your gas tank, many of us put junk into our bodies on a regular basis and then wonder why we don't have the energy to get through the day. While training for the World Championships, I made myself eat healthfully because it was very obvious that my physical and my mental shape depended upon it. After I retired, however, I developed a weakness for junk food, despite the fact that it made me feel sluggish. Then my yogi master reminded me that I'd only been addressing half of my fitness dilemma. Besides focusing on exercise, I also needed to eat more wisely. Now I give in to my junk food cravings only one day a week, and my body feels and looks much better.

5. MAKE APPOINTMENTS WITH YOUR BODY

It's easy to put your body first when it's the source of your income. Still, as soon as I finished my training session, I started filling my Palm Pilot with clients one on one session. No wonder that at the end of most workdays, I was either too zonked or too preoccupied to go to the gym. So on Sunday nights, I began checking my calendar to determine my business and social obligations for the week, then penned in when I planned to work out each day, literally making appointments with my body to exercise. And just like I faithfully stuck to the rest of my schedule, I never once canceled a workout.

6. ALWAYS BE READY TO WORKOUT

As a professional athlete, competing and working out are always in the forefront of your mind. The rest of us have 28 million other things to think about, which means that we need to make exercising as convenient as possible. I joined a gym close to home, and being able to drive, run or bike there has proven effective in keeping me on a consistent schedule, regardless of the weather. For added motivation, I always keep a clean set of workout clothes in my car so I can head to the gym or the local park on a whim. (After all, if you don't go home first, you won't find excuses to stay home.) I also keep a stash of fitness gadgets in my closet, including a medicine ball, handheld weights and a stability ball. These let me exercise my entire body and, because they're so different from what I usually do at the gym, I generally look forward to using them again. Plus, most of these items travel well, which allows me to workout when I am on the road.

7. GREAT BODIES THINK ALIKE

When I was competing as a Pro, I had various training partners and a crowd of fans -not to mention lucrative contracts - to motivate me to stay fit. In the real world, we have to find other sources of motivation: friends, family, even a local sports team. When you've entered into a pact with someone else, you're more likely to remain committed. Once you've found a workout partner, consider signing an agreement that outlines your fitness goals. Seeing your fitness dream written down on paper may give you the boost you need to achieve it.

8. CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS

When I was a pro, working out regularly and being in top shape was a given. These days, I feel an incredible sense of achievement whenever I complete an ordinary 60-minute workout. Sure, I use to push and pull over 15 tons of iron in a single session, but now I'm beside myself with joy when I break the ton or two. Aiming to stay at the gym 60 minutes but can only stay 30 minutes? Celebrate anyway, because you're on your way. You can give yourself little rewards here and there - as long as it's not junk food. Instead, splurge on a smoothie or a low-fat yogurt. Every 2 weeks of success for sticking to your training routine, celebrate big time by treating yourself for a big night out, dinner and popcorns at the movies.

9. BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE

Always be aware that what you have is the result of what you've asked for and for what you've done to get there. Share your knowledge with others that are inspired by you. We've all learned from someone else and we all need to share the wealth of knowledge we accumulate along the way.

10. KEEP LEARNING

Learning is what keeps us going, if it wasn't for learning we would all be in a status quo living as most of our ancestors did; kept away from knowledge and forced to be in a state of ignorance so they wouldn't create an uprising against corrupted governments. So keep learning and keep improving. Life is a sport, play it as a professional. You won't go anywhere except where you are if you are an amateur.

Indoor Cycling and Spin Classes - How to Get the Most From Your Workout

The topic of spin classes came up at our local health club a few days ago. During the course of a few minutes of very interesting conversation, one thing became clear. People either love indoor cycling, or they hate it! There seems to be very little middle ground.

If you're looking for a low impact cardio workout, indoor cycling is one of your best options. But just like any fitness activity, you'll want to make sure you're stacking the deck in your favor for the best odds of success. There are a few essentials to consider if you want to get the most benefit from your cycling workout.

The first time I participated in a spin class, I'll admit to being just a bit intimidated. All of my fears were unfounded though, just as soon as I embraced a few key concepts. In fact, most people I've talked to who didn't enjoy the classes ultimately didn't get the most from their workout, leading to disappointment and not trying again.

Here's three tips for indoor cycling participants:

1. Make sure you're wearing proper clothing, and keep that water bottle handy. Running shorts and sweats are not designed for indoor cycling. Get yourself some biking shorts, or at least wear shorts with extra padding and comfort in the inner thigh area to prevent discomfort. As for water, you'll want to be ready to consume plenty, both during and after class.

2. Remember, this workout is about you and not what other participants are doing. All too often, it's easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm of the class, despite what your body might be telling you. Listen to your body and follow suit. Make adjustments as necessary.

3. Make sure your seat is adjusted properly. This is the most common mistake in spinning classes. Your seat should be at a height where your knee angle is about 85% straight during the downstroke. If your seat is too high or too low, you'll risk injury and you won't get the most from your workout either. If you need help determining the proper height of your seat, ask your instructor for guidance.

Finally, ask yourself about your fitness level, and be honest with your response. Intensity levels in spin classes vary, and some can be too intense for beginners. Don't be discouraged. Instead, modify the workout to your level and make a goal to increase your capabilities over the following weeks and months.

If you're just starting, consider working on your form and conditioning on a stationary bike before participating in a spinning class. This way, you can increase your fitness level and get acclimated to indoor cycling. In just a few short weeks, you'll be ready for a great spin class workout!

Fitness apparels and accessories, as well as exercise programs custom-made especially for women have been gaining so much popularity. When there's a truly enjoyable workout routine like dancing and a variety of gender-sensitive fitness and sports accessories and apparel to choose from, women will truly be inclined to showing off and celebrating their womanhood the healthy way. With all these in place, it can be said that women's workout will never be the same again.

How Treadmills Compare To Other Types Of Home Fitness Equipment

When it comes to exercise, people like to walk or run. These are natural activities for us. They can have practical applications, such as getting from one place to another. They require less gear than many other forms of exercise (although you can spend a bundle on shoes, clothes and other accessories if you really wanted). And walking or running are great forms of exercise. They burn calories, work many muscle groups and strengthen cardiovascular components in the body. Walking is one of the best or perhaps the only feasible form of exercise for people with diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension and chronic back pain. Walking doesn't require a lot of technical know-how or instruction. We already know how to do it, and a few pointers about heart rate and breathing will at least get us on the road. In general, walking and running are easy and convenient ways to improve health and fitness and a home treadmill adds to this overall appeal.

According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, over 40 million consumers purchase treadmills each year and the number continues to grow. Treadmills account for over 1/3 of all home exercise equipment sales. So why do so many people choose treadmills and how do they compare to stair machines, stationary bikes and other home fitness equipment?

Ease and Convenience

The number one reason people use a treadmill is convenience. It allows you to exercise even when the weather is bad or the fitness center is closed. You can exercise in the early morning or after dinner or whenever the mood strikes you. You can even use your treadmill in the buff if you don't feel like washing your workout clothes.

You can read, watch TV, talk with friends, or listen to music or audiotapes while you exercise on a treadmill. You can keep an eye on your kids, wait for files to download, take care of dinner or the laundry and even meditate, think through problems or make grocery lists.

For those who need to stay in the office until five - even when it's not busy, or who prefer to exercise in the privacy of their own homes, a treadmill is ideal. Also, in some areas and neighborhoods, walking or running exposes one to traffic, muggers or vicious dogs. These hazards are avoided by using a treadmill.

Another reason people like treadmills is because you can just hop on and walk without a great deal of preparation and even if you don't work terribly hard at it, you still accomplish something. But today's treadmills make it easy to program in workout routines that simulate hills or vary speeds to enhance the effectiveness of your workout or challenge you to work harder and improve. The control panels are typically user friendly and many machines have built in heart rate monitors.

Clearly a treadmill provides several advantages over walking or running outside. And it is often easier and less expensive than other types of home exercise equipment, but how does it compare in terms of pure cardiovascular workout and calorie burning?

A Better Burn

According to a study done by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, a person using a treadmill for 60 minutes burns an average of 865-705 calories. Check that against other common exercise equipment:

· rowing machine 739-606 calories burned

· stationary cycle 604-5956 calories burned

· cross-country ski machine 678-595 calories burned

Treadmill vs Elliptical Machine

What about the new elliptical machines? An elliptical cross trainer with handles to work the upper body provides a workout that compares to that of a treadmill when it comes to muscles used and heart rate issues. The main difference between the two types of home exercise equipment is that and elliptical machine operates more smoothly and creates less of an impact on bones and joints. This might be good for those with recent injuries or chronic conditions, but it is the impact that helps maintain or improve bone density, which in turn strengthens bones and prevents the loss of calcium.

Most experts agree that a healthy person needs the bouncing and jarring associated with walking or running to keep bones, muscles and joints working properly. A treadmill is one of the few home fitness machines that provide this type of exercise. And most come with a cushioned platform to minimize impact or keep it at an acceptable level. As with any form of exercise, it is a good idea to check with your doctor first if you have health conditions that may make it difficult or unwise for you to participate in certain activities.

With a treadmill, the concept is basically simple. If you want to work harder, you increase the incline or the speed. Usually this is done with a push of the button. An elliptical machine can be adjusted to target certain muscle groups, but it requires some knowledge and usually must be done manually. And because elliptical machines are relatively new to the home fitness market, there are fewer models to choose from and they tend to cost a bit more than the average treadmill. Some people have commented that they feel the elliptical machines can be more difficult to use because the motions do not feel as natural as walking or running. It is a good idea to try out any piece of exercise equipment before buying to see how it feels and fits with your needs.

Many people who exercise do so because they know they should, not because they thoroughly enjoy it. Sure you feel good after you complete your workout, but sometimes getting motivated can be difficult. And if you are going to put in the time, you want to know that what you're doing is actually helping you burn calories and become more fit. Treadmills rank at the top of the list when it comes to home fitness equipment, providing one of the most effective workouts in proportion to the amount of time spent. So make your movements count. 3 Abs Workout Mistakes

I have logged thousands of personal training sessions over my career and everybody wants to know more about abs workouts and abs exercises.

My clients want to know how to lose stomach fat and get a six-pack, or at the very least they just want to lose stomach fat so they have a firm abs that look good in their clothes (and naked).

I can't blame them. Who doesn't want a nice looking midsection? Who doesn't want to get firm abs or get lean enough they can say they have a six-pack.

The problem is that 99% of them all have the same misconceptions about abs workouts and abs exercises and how to really lose stomach fat and get firm abs.

I've narrowed down the mistakes, myths and misconceptions surrounding abs workouts and abs exercises to my top 3.

These 3 abs workout mistakes are made by just about everyone I've ever trained, designed a program for, or consulted.

Are you making these same mistakes?

1) Spending too much time doing crunches. I'm just going to come right out and say it...you don't need to do crunches to get six pack abs and you sure as heck don't need to do crunches to lose stomach fat or even get a firm abs.

Crunches simply don't work enough muscle and don't burn enough fat calories to be thought of as a worthwhile exercise in order to lose stomach fat, let alone get firm abs or a six-pack.

Spending 20 minutes a day doing hundreds (or thousands) of crunches is like electing Big Bird or Elmo president.

Sure they may sound good and have all the answers, but it just doesn't make much sense electing a puppet to such a high office (sorry, that was my attempt at a joke).

Doing hundreds, or even thousands, of crunches will strengthen your abdomen, that's for sure, but what does it matter if you still have a layer of flabby goo covering up all the hard work?

Instead you need to focus on full body workouts and full body abs exercises in order to lose stomach fat fast and get the firm, toned stomach or six pack abs you're after.

Take for instance this abs workout, using only full body abs exercises, I designed for a client. Do this mini-circuit before your regular workout, when you're still fresh, so you can really hit your abs hard.

1A) Dumbbell Overhead Squat - 10 reps
1B) Mountain Climbers - 30 seconds
1C) Reverse Plank - 30 seconds

Do that in a circuit format, resting 20 seconds after the final exercise before repeating it again 2 or 3 times. Do that for a few week and you'll definitely see a difference in your abs and you will lose stomach fat.

2) Throwing all your hard work out the door by eating poorly. What good does it do to work so hard in your fat loss workouts only to come home, or leave your home gym, and eat junk?

What sense does it make that after all your hard work, you ruin it with poor eating habits on a daily basis? This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you could do. I don't mean to be rude, I'm just trying to put it bluntly.

If you want to lose stomach fat and get firm abs, or even six-pack abs, you need to clean up your diet and stop eating so poorly. You need to quit eating processed junk found in boxes and bags like crackers and chips, stop eating things like bagels and processed breads and start eating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, legumes and healthy fats.

You also need to start eating multiple times throughout the day, and this especially means eating breakfast. It also means cutting out the late night snacking and cutting down on alcohol.

You know what to cut out, so do it.

Remember what your goals are. You want to lose stomach fat and you want to get firm abs. Eat like it!

3) Not actively flexing, or bracing, your abs in every exercise. It's sad that I have to say this, but all too often, people don't actively flex their abs while doing an abs exercise.

I don't know why. You'd think that because you're doing an abs exercise that you'd be flexing your abs hard every repetition, but too many people just go through the motions and to way too fast.

You need to slow down and actively flex your abs when you're doing an abs exercise. And for every exercise that's not an abs exercise, you need to brace them like somebody is about to punch you in the stomach.

Doing so will ensure that you learn to "control" your abs and make sure that when you do lose stomach fat that you'll have a defined and toned midsection worthy of praise.

I also want you to think of it this way...every exercise should be an abs exercise. If you brace your abs during every single exercise in your fat loss workout, you'll essentially turn every single exercise into an abs exercise. Doing a chest press, brace your abs. Doing a lunge, brace your abs. Every single exercise you do, whether you're working your abs specifically or not, should be turned into an abs exercise.

If you stop making these vital abs workout and abs exercise mistakes, and start doing full body workouts with full body abs exercises, I guarantee that you'll begin to lose stomach fat and get firm abs (and maybe even that sought after six-pack) in no time.

Ten Unbreakable Weight Loss Tips

There are countless sources of tips on weight loss floundering around on the internet; many of them with headlines claiming fast results from hidden Hollywood secrets or the right combination of supplements and pills. The truth about weight loss is often the most difficult pill to swallow because there is no short cut. Losing weight takes substantial effort, patience, and significant will power.

The tips I encourage are void of quick fixes. Losing weight is simply a matter of burning more calories than you take in. There are, however, several things you can do to make your journey a bit less arduous.

1. Set small goals. Looking at your total goal can be intimidating, make small goals for fitness and weight loss. Achieving them will keep your fire stoked.

2. Eat the right breakfast. I am rarely hungry in the morning, especially after three cups of coffee. However, if I skip breakfast I always eat more for the rest of the day. Breakfast jump starts your metabolism as well, especially if it's high protein. Bagels and muffins don't make my list of the right breakfast either.

3. Don't cheat yourself. Have a zero tolerance approach to your workout time. Free yourself of any distractions and tell yourself up front how long you're going to work out. Don't quit 1 second sooner

4. Find your motivator. You need to know your motivator. Why do you want to lose weight? If it's to fit in that bathing suit, you're going to have to dig deeper. This is a life changing event and the day you decide to lose weight is a pivotal moment in your life. Know what set that in motion, write it down, and staple it to you forehead (or tape it to your mirror).

5. Reward yourself. When you set small goals and reach them you deserve to reward yourself. Go buy some new workout clothes or another fitness accessory. It's fun and will keep you motivated.

6. Find an active hobby. I love marathons, I also love marathon sessions of Call of Duty. My thumbs are almost as fit as my legs. Try a few outdoor, activity centered hobbies until you fall in love with one. If you love doing it, it's no longer work.

7. Track your intake. You absolutely have to know what the maximum number of calories you can consume everyday and still lose weight. You also must track you calorie intake so you can access where you are in relation to that maximum number.

8. Drink plenty of water. Water fills you up, helps food digest, and keeps your kidneys happy. A good rule is 80-100 ounces a day.

9. Get Support. If you're not up to joining a group then you can find support with friends, family, and online.

10. Allow breathing room. Being too rigid will cause an early relapse. I'm not a fan of "cheat days" but you can allow yourself small indulgences every now and again.

Fitness Tips For Fall

Fall is here but does that mean that your fitness goals will be blown way like the leaves from the trees?

Exercising at the gym can yield some amazing results, but if you have not done this before you may feel uneasy about starting. It is easy to think that everyone knows what they are doing apart from yourself. You may worry about looking a klutz, or imagine that your body does not look as good as others, or whether you are able to do the exercises.

At the outset this is usually OK because most gyms will break you in gently just to show you the various exercise machines but later you may become confused unless you have engaged a personal trainer. You may even find yourself in the unfortunate position of not being able to remember what has been shown you and further add to your embarrassment.

Stand back for a second and remember that these feelings are not unique to you - everyone joining the gym for the first time feels the same. As each day passes your confidence will grow and within time you'll be strolling through your gym exercises with all the poise of a consummate fitness pro!

Try these fitness tips to help you through your fledgling stages:

1. If you're a rank amateur, you may consider engaging a trainer to start of with until you become more experienced or alternatively go along to the training classes with a friend, so that way you can both learn together.

2. Decide which days you are going to go to the gym, and make a contract with yourself that nothing short of an emergency will stop you from going. The idea is to make going to the gym a habit just like taking a shower or brushing your teeth. Over the passage of time your persistence will be rewarded as the new dynamic, physically fit individual emerges.

3. Don't rely on your memory when a staff member is showing you how to use the machines at the initial lesson but instead take a few brief notes so that when you come back you have a record of what machine does what and how you should operate it and for how long.

4. Remember to wear loose clothes or clothes with plenty of stretch. Many people go out and buy workout clothes that are too tight in anticipation of their new weight reduced size, but when the weight reduction takes longer than anticipated the tight clothing can be a constant nag.

5. Many people get hung up over being over weight - don't be! In some respects it is better to be a few pounds overweight as your results will be more noticeable than for slim people and you will find this will motivate you to carry on with your routine with increased vigour. Be sure and take a photo of yourself before you start exercising so that you have a before and after record of your success!

6. Take it east to start with. The danger is to push yourself to the max straight away become fatigued and take a day of to recover. Missing a session occasionally is OK but miss too many and you may just decide not to continue. So initially at least take your time and work at your own pace then you can increase your tempo as your stamina increases.

7. For some of us that are carrying a few more pounds than we should we may have a problem with our stomachs being too large to fit behind some of the exercise machines - don't despair! Try building up your fitness and losing some weight on the treadmill to begin with before moving on to some of the other machines. Also consider swimming as an occasional alternative to gym exercise.

8. Most gyms and health clubs want repeat customers so don't be afraid to ask the staff questions. If you have forgotten how to use a particular machine or how to set it up for your height and weight make sure that you get someone to help you - they need your business, so ask!

9. When using a treadmill if you find your knee and ankle joints complaining when you increase the speed try increasing the gradient instead. It might surprise you to learn that with the treadmill on an incline and on a slower speed you will burn more calories than if you go jogging.

10. You need to push yourself a little to make progress but don't be too hard on yourself either. Try exercising twenty minutes on the treadmill, then increase the speed or incline to push your envelope slightly. If you want to succeed at anything you have to put the work in!

Dwayne Johnson Training - Dwayne Johnson's Transformation

Have you ever wondered what Dwayne Johnson's training routine is? I know I have. I remember seeing "The Rock" on TV in his early wrestling days, coming out of college football as a bulky 280 pound defensive lineman.

Now he graces the silver screen at a lean and ripped 225 pounds.

So what is Dwayne Johnson's training regime that has enabled him to get so lean?

Well as you could imagine, Dwayne's training has changed a lot since his football days. Back then, his training was all about becoming bigger, faster and stronger. Big heavy lifts and eating like an animal. He jokingly referred to himself back then as "The Samoan Michelin Man".

However, once he became a wrestler, Johnson's training routine changed, because he realised his flabby 280 pound body just wasn't going to cut it, in the "superhero" world of pro wrestling. So he tightened up his diet and changed his training to lighter weights for higher reps with supersets and very little rest between sets to get the heart rate up and burn fat.

Doing this he dropped 20 pounds, and got down to 260.

Then as he was about to leave wrestling and pursue his acting career, he knew that being bulky is definitely something Hollywood frowns upon.

So he hired a new trainer, and managed to slice his body fat in half in 4 and a half months, going from 260 pounds, to a lean 245.

Here is Dwayne Johnson's training regime during this time.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday-Resistance training:
Chest, back, biceps, calves: 5 sets, 15-20 reps, 30 second rest periods
Cardio: 5-minute warmup, 12 minutes at high intensity clip, 5-minute cool down.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday -Resistance training:
Quads, hamstrings, shoulders, triceps: 5 sets, 15-20 reps, 30-second rest periods
Cardio: 5-minute warmup, 12 minutes at high intensity clip, 5-minute cool down.

Sunday-OFF

Nowadays he weighs in at 225 pounds and here is what Dwayne Johnson himself says about his training...

"My workout is my cup of coffee in the morning, my sanctuary. I do a lot of cardio...I keep that consistent, because I like having my heart rate between 120 and 130 for the entire hour and 15 minutes. I combine cardio with resistance training, weights and core training. It is all non-stop and the goal for me is to challenge myself every day with different workouts,"

Now although he works his butt off he wouldn't have lost a pound of fat if his diet was messed up. His diet staples are protein shakes, beef, chicken breast, and vegetables.

So here is his diet taken from the April 2004 issue of Men's Health.

Meal One- 10 egg whites, scrambled, 3 servings cream of rice or 1 cup oatmeal, 3 rice cakes, 24 oz water
Meal Two- 6-oz skinless grilled chicken breast, 1 cup grits, 6 oz yams, 1 cup of steamed asparagus, 24 oz water
Meal Three- 6-oz water-packed tuna, 1 cup brown rice, 1 sliced cucumber, 24 oz water
Meal Four- 6-oz perch fillet, 1 cup barley, 6-oz baked potato, 1 cup steamed green beans, 24 oz water
Meal Five- 6-oz pork tenderloin, 1 cup brown rice, 6-oz sweet potato, 1 cup peas, 24 oz water
Meal Six- 10 egg whites, scrambled, 3 servings cream of rice or 1 cup oatmeal, 24 oz water

Now if you are anything like me, you have probably just looked at his diet and thought "Screw that!".

I remember seeing this, thinking "Damn The Rock must have some discipline!"

Nothing but super clean foods like brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potato, and lean, fat free meat. I remember back when I was dieting obsessively and I got to the point where I was struggling not to vomit as I chewed through my egg whites and tuna!

Yuck!

But it is good to see that Dwayne Johnson is human. Here is what he says about his diet.

"My diet is simple and very clean. I stay away from fried foods and fast food. But every third or fourth day, I do give myself the opportunity to completely gorge and I indulge in a little gluttony. I eat pizza or whatever I feel like. I do like a drink or two."

I also remember Peter Berg, the director of The Rundown say that once a week, Dwayne would have half a dozen boxes of donuts to his trailer. He would share half of them with the crew and eat the other half himself!

Now that's cool.

Dwayne Johnson still loves all those everyday "bad" foods that so many of us love. He just has them sparingly.

Well what if I told you could lose as much fat as you want, without EVER having to give up the foods that you love?

You could get as lean as you want, all while eating absolutely whatever you want every day, even if it was pizza, chocolate, ice cream, donuts, burgers or cereal.

In fact I have been overweight my whole life, and spent 7 years dieting obsessively trying to eat super clean like the Rock. But no matter how hard I tried I failed because my love for the "forbidden Foods" was just too much to stand.

The Power Hour

Here's a test: The alarm goes off--what do you do?

a. Alarm? What alarm? That's for people who work!

b. Roll over, turn it off, and plead with God for ten more minutes.

c. Jump out of bed, take a cleansing breath, and yell, "Thank you for this day!"

I'm not sure how you start the day, but I will tell you that how you begin your day is the greatest predictor of how the rest of your day will follow. Do you want an average day? Then just be like the rest of the masses and start your day in an average way.

But if you're ready for your best life, if you want greatness and abundance, then you need to begin your day with a Power Hour. I know what you're thinking. I'm a busy mom just like you. An hour? When can I find an hour in my crazy day? Well, here's the deal. This investment of time will actually pay you back in amazing ways. You will have more energy to accomplish your goals and your time will seem to multiply as a result. And, I've found out that we all do what we MUST do. If you are really determined to live a better life, you will do those things you must do to get there. It's your moment-by-moment decisions that will create your destiny, and the first opportunity you have is that moment that your eyes open in the morning.

So, let's go back to that first scenario.

Your alarm goes off in the morning. Here's what you are going to do, and it may very well be the most difficult thing you do in your entire day. But, if you can do this, you can do just about anything--Jump out of bed.

Yes, you read that right. JUMP out of bed. If you can will your body to do this one task, you can command your entire day.

So, sit up, swing those pretty legs of yours around the bed and JUMP. Then, you're going to take three deep, cleansing breaths (in through your nose, out through your mouth), and say--OUT LOUD!--"Thank you for this day!"

I have a little motto I live by, "Worst First." It is the hardest thing to do in the morning, but that is exactly the reason you need to do it. This puts YOU in charge!

So, now the clock is ticking:

:00--Jump out of bed

:01--Mix up a magic brew to drink (and I'm not talking about coffee). There are lots of nutritious beverages to drink, or you can juice some veggies. I mix up one of my own tried and true concoctions of green vegetable powder, vitamin powder, protein powder, flax meal, and probiotics. After drinking your brew, you can always chase it with some green tea or coffee.

:05--Get on some clothes you can sweat in. I wear the same stinky workout clothes every morning for a week before tossing it in the laundry. Hey, I wake up early. No one is smelling me but me (and we all know you can never smell your own funk).

:10--Okay, this next part is going to take half an hour, but it is so worth it! Get outside and go walking! And don't just do any old measly walking. Hold your head HIGH! Take deep, cleansing breaths (in through your nose, out through your mouth). Make long, powerful strides! And when you go walking, you're going to divide this thirty minutes into two parts:

* Part One: Spend fifteen minutes being grateful. Think of those who are closest to you and thank God for them, now extend it to your friends, other family members, those you work with, and beyond. Send that love and gratitude out.

* Part Two: Spend the last fifteen minutes visualizing those those situations you want to happen (the changes you want made, the goals you want accomplished), but do so as if it has already occurred. Instead of just asking God to supply your needs, thank Him that He already has. What a difference! Get in the state of mind and body as if these situations have already happened because God is working in your favor! What a blessing!

:40--Now, you're energized! For the next twenty minutes, use that time to sit with a book, pen, and paper and do some growing. This is when I read my bible.

:60--Your Power Hour is done and now it's time to hit the showers and get dressed. You may be skeptical about this investment of time, but PLEASE! Try to prove me wrong. Try it for two weeks, minimum, and see for yourself if it doesn't change your life in remarkable ways. C'mon, DO IT! Aren't you ready to live an abundant life? It all starts with YOU!

Yoga Clothes

Yoga is relaxing and a great workout for your body and mind. Yet like anything else, it can come with its fair share of frustrations. One of the things new students ask me the most is what type of yoga clothes are the best to wear while exercising.

It may sound a bit superficial, but hear me out. I am not advocating that you go out and buy a whole new wardrobe just so you can look stylish while getting fit. While this is important to many people, it is not the sort of concern which is the most important thing. What is the most important is that your yoga clothes be comfortable. Clothing that is too tight can restrict your movements. Meanwhile, clothing that is too baggy can get in the way. You simply do not want anything to be a distraction during your workout, especially the things you can control such as what you are wearing.

With this said, finding something that is comfortable is the first requirement. Remember that when it comes to what you wear during a workout, the biggest distraction is how you feel in your second skin. Feeling comfortable is a two part concept: mental comfort and physical comfort. You need to feel comfortable with how you look, but most importantly for yoga, you need to feel physically comfortable in your yoga clothes if you want the most out of your workout. This is followed closely by how your wardrobe actually fits.

Ideally, you want something that is loose enough so that you can have a full range of motion for your poses. I find that simple cotton shirts are great for your upper body. Having a tight shirt is actually very bad since many poses require plenty of fluid movement. Although it should be noted that a shirt that is too big tends to bind.

You also want yoga clothes that are tight enough so that they do not fall down or become an obstacle. I would suggest elastics for your lower body. By having pants that are tight, yet can stretch, you can be sure they never get in the way. If you are not comfortable with elastic, sweat pants can work. You just have to make sure that they are not too baggy and that the waistband will stay in place. The last thing you want is for them to slip. Anything that gets in the way of your feet can be disastrous when you are attempting poses that require a lot of balance.

This makes the dressing room at the store extremely important. I cannot stress this enough: try your clothes on before you buy them! While you are at it, try some poses while you are in the dressing room. That should give you a good idea for how your yoga clothes will work during class. Of course, things shrink in the wash and what not, but you will have a better idea for what those items can handle.
