A Guide to Maternity Clothes

In the past, mothers-to-be would cut down their social life, for the simple reason that they did not have a wardrobe to flatter their changing figure. That was before a special fashionable and stylish maternity clothesline came to stay. Designers have created a special line of clothes to compliment a fuller figure during and after pregnancy.

Maternity dresses are now available off the rack. Most department stores have a maternity section. The designs and cuts of these dresses make them more comfortable for pregnant women. Some luxury brands offer maternity clothes that cater to the fashion savvy such as denim jeans, causal, and intimate apparel.

The clothes should be made with the same proportions as non-maternity clothes but with additional built-in comfort to allow for changing shape. In case the size required falls between sizes, it is advisable to buy the next size up.

Maternity clothes are suitable for the period between the fourth to the ninth month. Prior to four months, most maternity clothes seem too large. When choosing an outfit in advance, it helps to use a small pillow when trying on clothes, to get an idea of the fit and the look, at 8 or 9 months. Many dresses and tops are styled with an adjustable back tie, to take up the extra material before it is needed.

Most pregnant women are already on tight budgets preparing for their baby's arrival. It is difficult to contemplate buying another wardrobe for just 6 months. At such moments, it is a boon to have relatives or friends to share clothing with. Saved money allows indulging in a few personal items and a few new items during pregnancy. Money spent on maternity clothes will not be wasted money if the wardrobe is carefully planned. Coordinating mix and match dresses as much as possible, gives the feel and look of a well-coordinated wardrobe.

Men's Jogging Suits

In the 1980's, when fitness awareness became very popular, the track suit was modified into the now-popular jogging suit. A lightweight zippered top and loose bottom pants that are gathered at the cuff became the popular design for jogging suits. These jogging suits also came in different colors, usually bright colors, and in different types of fabrics the most popular of which are the knitted fleece, stretch velour, knit pique, and stretch terry. Newer fabrics came into the jogging suit construction such as Dri-fit, CoolMax, Thermax, and others. These new fabrics have wicking characteristics as they allow perspiration to easily escape and evaporate outside of the clothing material thus keeping the jogger dry and cool at the same time.

Men's jogging clothes can be worn separately or as coordinates. The top parts can be mixed and matched with the bottom parts so it is very unusual to find joggers wearing different colors on top and another color on the bottom.

Men's jogging suits are dependent on the weather when the jogger will be going out for his runs. But it is not a problem anymore as you can find in the market different kinds of jogging suits that fit different kinds of weather conditions be it the blazing heat of summer or the blizzard conditions during winter. Running shoes, which are essential parts of the ensemble, come also in different styles to suit the weather. There are mesh materials for summer and water-proof tops for jogging in the snow. Jogging accessories are also determined by the weather conditions such as gloves or mitts for summer and mesh hats for summer jogs.

For winter jogging, men's attire must be layered to protect the body from the extreme cold condition on the road. The first layer of clothing must be a wicking base that must be made from synthetic material which will wick the perspiration away from the body while keeping the body dry and warm. It is not advisable to wear cotton as the base layer because it will get wet and stay wet when you perspire, chilling you as you go on your jogging run. The second or middle layer must be heavier than the base layer to further insulate the body while still wicking the moisture outward. This layer must be loose fitting and must easily be removed if the weather condition fluctuates. The third and outer layer must be a jacket or a vest that must be windproof and waterproof but lightweight and breathable to allow perspiration to evaporate. Gloves and mittens could be added for further insulation.

During summer, men's jogging suits consist of comfortable and lightweight mesh top made of fabric with wicking characteristics and running shorts made of Supplex nylon which will hang comfortably and will not stick to sweaty skin. Cotton fabric is not recommended as they cling to the body once they get wet. Mesh running shoes that will allow perspiration to evaporate and a good pair of wicking socks made of acrylic will add comfort to the jogging.

Regardless of the weather condition, it is now possible to get jogging suits for male joggers that will provide protection against the elements and give comfort to the joggers at the same time. We may add that they are fashionable too.

How To Choose Men's Workout Apparel And Training Gear

We are all after the effects that workouts give us such as being more fit and lean but we shouldn't only be concerned about looking good from working out but we should also want to look good while we are exercising. It pays off to know what we wear when training is both stylish as well as practical for the workouts we are doing. If you arm yourself with this knowledge you will find exercise clothing that will make the workouts that much more comfortable.

In any exercise program the first concern with the apparel you choose should be that of comfort while you are working out. You will want to be sure that in addition to being comfortable and fitting well that the footwear you choose also have good support and stability. If you choose the proper high quality footwear they should come with some kind of cushion inside that will make your exercise routine more comfortable. An improper choice of shoes can result in injuries in many cases.

Moving on up, you will also want to choose a good pair of pants that will not bind while you are training. One style that is in is that of the baggy workout pants, but regardless of whether you choose baggy pants or more conservative workout shorts you want to be sure that they do not interfere with any movements or so loose that they may be caught in machines. If you choose training pants constructed of a good micro fiber this will help keep you cool and remove moisture while you are training.

For your choice of exercise shirt you will want to choose one that is also as comfortable as everything else you have chosen. Regular t-shirts are a very popular choice, just be careful with them if you are doing upper body weight lifting. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts may be a better choice since they don't bind in the shoulder area.

Best Treadmill Workout

First off, I hate treadmills and treadmill workouts. Most people who use them waste their time on them. Jogging, walking, whatever... it's a waste of time how they use this machine. Generally speaking, if you're going to jog or walk, how about doing it outside in the fresh air?

Anyway, forget what I just said because I'm going to show you an incredible treadmill workout that'll basically force you to lose a ton of fat from your belly, thighs, hips, and butt... and it'll only take 15-20 minutes of your time.

Best Treadmill Workout

So what is this mysterious treadmill workout that's so much better than walking and jogging on a treadmill? Well, it's walking on the treadmill... but inclining it 10-15 degrees.

Oh, you're thinking what's the big deal. Uh, I dare you to try it once and then get back to me on that thought. Smile. Walking on a treadmill is fine for long term, slow weight loss. But walking on a 10-15 degree inclined treadmill will cause rapid and massive fat loss really quick.

It's like night and day.

Why does walking on an incline work so good? Simple, it causes a huge oxygen deficit within your body (something regular walking doesn't do). When that happens, your body is looking to scavenge any energy source it can because it needs energy right now! It can't wait.

Well golly gee, guess what? It goes straight to plundering your body fat for that quick energy. You can almost feel your body burning off the fat cells when this is happening, it's a weird feeling.

So there you have it, just adjust the treadmill up by 10-15 degrees and voila, you are in for some serious fat burning. You only need to walk on it for 15-20 minutes a day.

10 Good Reasons Not to Go to the Gym

If you think that you can only get results in a gym, think again. It used to be that I thought so, too, but actually, you can be more fit (and certainly more efficient) if you don't. By doing so, you can still get in a workout at least six days a week, if not more, and maintain those killer abs, too.

What are some things you lose (to your advantage) when you stop going to the gym?

1. Wasted time on travel and changing clothes

Well, you don't have to drive to the gym anymore, so that cuts out travel time. And, you're not changing in and out of street clothes into workout gear in the locker room, either.

2. Following the "sheep mentality"

When you work out in the gym, there's something called the "sheep mentality" that can actually be to your disadvantage. Most people who work out at the gym do so because they want to fit into what infomercials and fitness magazines say they must do. That means when you go to the gym, it's likely that you're going to do what everyone else does instead of what's truly beneficial for you.

Let's take an example. Instead of doing hours of cardio, you can do several minutes of intense interval training and burn fat on your belly, hips and thighs that simply seems permanent.

The guys are no better, because they might work chest, bicep or ab muscles to "look good," but they also take really long rests between upper body exercises. In other words, they could probably bench 300 pounds or more, but full range of motion push-ups using just their body weight is something they probably could NOT do.

Instead of doing what everyone else in the gym is doing, do something that really works. And, you can do this at home.

3. Waiting for your turn

When you're at the gym, it's likely that you spend a lot of time waiting around just to use a piece of equipment. In fact, 10 to 20 minutes of workout can be spent doing just that, when you could be doing something much more valuable. Not only is this bad for your workout momentum, but it actually is a detriment to your workout itself because you continually "warm up" and "cool down". In addition, you are continually on a "stop and go" basis, which is completely counterproductive because what you really want to do is a work to rest ratio with an alternating set format. This will help you burn fat and lose weight fast, which is what most people want to do when they work out.

So instead of doing that, try this at home: do 50 seconds of work, and then 10 seconds of transition and rest. Incorporate that into a five-exercise total body strength circuit. You can't do this in a gym, because there's too much wait time. But you can do this at home. So get yourself a couple of good pieces of exercise equipment you'll really use, and be in control of your own workout.

4. You can get sick at the gym

Let's face it. People carry cold and flu (and leave their germs all over equipment) to the gym just like they do anyplace else. Yes, gym personnel try very hard to clean up the equipment, but at the end of the day, there's only so much they can do and they can't keep the gym sterile. So a better way to stay healthy is to work out at home, where the only germs you are going to encounter are your own.

5. Nasty people

Let's face it. People can be annoying. You're in your zone, working out, and someone wants to talk to you. What kind of way to get results is that? For a lot of people, going to the gym doesn't mean "working out." It means "socializing." In addition, it's not entirely pleasant to have someone watching you when you're in the middle of your workouts. In fact, it can be downright irritating.

Worse yet is when someone asks you about your workout routine. If they're so interested, they can pay for a trainer themselves. Heck, they're even sometimes provided free with gym membership. So to avoid all of these annoyances, work out at home. It'll save you time and headaches, too. Best of all, you can do it in just about 20 minutes.

6. Membership expenses

Gym memberships can be expensive. How much better would it be to invest in some good quality equipment that you only have to pay for once and then work out for free (beyond that initial cost) for years to come?

7. Broken equipment, or equipment that doesn't do what it says it does

When you get your own equipment, you know it's going to work the way you want it to, and be best for your body. Too often, gym machines don't work the way they supposed to, or they're completely useless. They can cause injury because your body moves in ways that it wasn't designed to. Better to invest in some of your own equipment that you know Is going to work for you, and leave it at that.

8. No space to really train in

A lot of the time, gyms are filled up with oversized machines that take up all of the valuable floor space so that there's no space to do "body only" exercises like lunges. Yet another reason to stay home.

9. Dependence on the facility

Much of the time, a gym forces you to become dependent on them. If you're used to using certain machines, all of a sudden you're not able to work out when you travel or can't go to your home gym. Most people use that as an excuse to take some time off of their workouts until they get home, which can be killer for progress and consistency.

Instead, exercises that depend on your body weight let you exercise anywhere, anytime. You get the same results or better than those that you get at the gym, and you can do them anywhere.

10. Bad trainers

A lot of trainers really don't know what they're doing. Basically, agencies that may or may not be above board certify them. Typically, if you go to a gym, you're in a "fitness factory." The gym wants you to go in, stay a little bit, and then go out. They don't care if you reach your fitness goals and they don't want to build a relationship with you. They just want their quota, and you help fill that quota.

So instead of using a trainer that gets paid $60 an hour and who may or may not be truly qualified, invest in some good equipment and do the job yourself with just a little bit of "on-the-job" training.

More than that, though, you don't need a one-hour workout. Gyms (and trainers) simply follow that spiel so as to fill an appointment schedule. It doesn't have much of anything to do with fitness.

A better alternative is to join a boot camp for fitness in your area that'll develop your community as a fit entity in its entirety. And that's going to cost you probably about $20, as opposed to the $60 a personal trainer will charge you. If you can't be disciplined in your workout at home, you can look for trainers using Workout Muse. Change your body, and change your life in less than half the time you typically spend with a trainer, about 30 minutes. And, best of all, this fitness schedule will keep you burning fat for the rest of the day.

So instead of trying to get yourself to go to the gym, set up your own workout space at home for very little cost. If you are dedicated enough, you won't have any problem. If you need someone to help keep you disciplined, try working out with a buddy.

So avoid the gym, and start working out at home instead. You won't be sorry, and you'll see results very quickly, for very little money. No gym rats to be found. What could be better than that?

The Comprehensive Guide to Becoming an NFL Cheerleader

Want to be an NFL cheerleader? NFL cheerleaders are important to the world of American football. Without them, football teams would not have the public image that they hold today as cheerleaders go out on the sidelines to entertain the audience, make appearances, and participate in charity events. However, getting into the NFL cheerleader squad is not an easy task as hundreds participate in the auditions each year to get one of the few coveted openings.

Preparation

If you're interested, the first thing you should do is to make a phone call or visit the homepage of the NFL cheerleaders squad. Keep track of when the audition is taking place. Auditions usually last a few days with preliminary rounds, semi-finals rounds, and final rounds. Find out what you will be doing on those days ie, what kind of dance, is there a freestyle dance, is there an interview session, other requirements.

Not all squads are the same. Some have different dancing styles so it would be handy to watch their moves in order to prepare for the audition. Watch their moves on TV or online on their website or Youtube.com. Some squads offer clinics or classes so make sure to take advantage of those to better prepare yourself. Also these clinics/classes can get you more exposure to the team which could work in your favor come audition time.

Looks

Try to anticipate what kind of "look" the squad is going for. Some may have a preferred look that they want to see in their cheerleaders. If you can note that, then try to achieve that look. Go to a good makeup artist and hair stylist and experiment over the year to see which one will get you the look you need so when it comes time, you can have that look ready for the auditioning process. Longer hair is usually better so try not to cut it short.

Work out consistently so you don't end up going out of shape towards the audition day. Plus you'll need that in-shape body to fit in the slim-fit NFL cheerleaders uniform.

A few days before audition, you may want to do a "dress rehearsal" to make sure your hair, makeup, and clothes are in good condition after a few dance routines.

Select your clothes a couple days before audition time. You may need interview attire in addition to your workout clothes. These clothes should fit you in a way that is comfortable and flattering. Nothing too revealing or else the judges will immediately discount you from semi-finals. Wear a color scheme that you will wear throughout the week. If you wear purple today, wear purple tomorrow. This way the judges can remember you which is important in a crowd of hundreds.

Dance

Dance skills are important because this is what NFL cheerleaders do on the sidelines. Learn what dances will be in the auditions. Some common ones are kickline, a jazz dance, and a freestyle dance. Also make sure you can pass the "Kick the Hat" test so if you can't do it now, start practicing so you can get it right. In addition, you'll have to do splits, high kicks, have good energy, and poise. It's a lot to think about and have to be able to do but if you can get this right in front of an audience, you will have a better chance than at least half the crowd. With freestyle dance, you'll just have to practice to random music and make stuff up on the spot. One way to go about this is to make a few moves before-hand and mix and match these moves on the spot. If you make a mistake, just smile and keep going like a true entertainer.

Interview, etc

When you've got your dance skills down, take the time to go over your interview skills. You want to make a good appearance so get a suit that has a professional and modern look. Prepare yourself to talk about the following topics: your history, why you want to be in the squad, are you willing to relocate, what is your availability, your knowledge of the NFL and its cheerleaders, and the squad specifically that your interested in. Think about some questions they might ask and prepare some answers ahead of time so you can feel more at ease talking during the interview. The last thing you want to do is stall for more than 10 seconds to answer a question. Go through a mock interview with a friend so you can get some candid feedback on how well you are doing.

During auditions, girls may get cut even though they did everything in their power to try to obtain a spot in the squad. They may even have done everything right. 10 Tips To Getting A More Effective Aerobic Workout

1. Always warm up with stretches so that your body is ready for an aerobic workout. This will help to avoid injury during the exercises and will also make it easier to move as the act of warming up increases flexibility.

Forty is the New Twenty? We Hope Not

When turning forty it seemed that I was assaulted by the phrase "forty is the new twenty." It was especially targeted at women since advertisers seem to assume that we are more susceptible to these messages than men. I first heard this proclamation when Demi Moore turned 40 and pictures of her in a bikini were on all the newsstands. Like many women in their mid-thirties, I hit the gym a little harder hoping to have a body like Demi when we turned 40.

Years later, we had to face everything we knew to be true about time and gravity. We women were still all for staying in shape, but we had to acknowledge the reality of trying to look twenty at forty. It is at best, overly optimistic, and at worst, borderline neurotic.

Around this time women were given a new outlook on this pitch of forty being the new twenty when Demi and the much younger Ashton Kutcher became an item. Maybe we don't need to look twenty we all thought, maybe we can just act twenty. This brief fantasy didn't feel right either. For most of us there are too many responsibilities at forty that don't allow us to act like we're twenty. Although women with reliable baby sitters did get a few Saturday nights of acting twenty.

So if we didn't want to look or act twenty, we needed to ask ourselves "What is so great about twenty that anyone would want to recreate it at forty?" Aside from looking good in those skinny jeans that have made an unfortunate comeback, most women I know couldn't think of anything. When we were twenty we worried about what nearly everyone thought about us. By age forty our list of people whose opinions we cared about was very small, and filled only with people that would say kind things about us.

Somewhere along the line, Demi Moore also seemed to find that there is a freedom to being in your forties that you don't have in your twenties. Photos of her in glamorous clothes at Hollywood hot spots were replaced with photos of her in a ball cap driving her kids to soccer games. Of course this new look meant that she was photographed a lot less, but I guess she crossed the paparazzi of her list of people to impress about the same time we crossed off the women who go to gym wearing make-up and designer work-out clothes.

So after quite a bit of reflecting, I feel comfortable saying that women don't want forty to be the new twenty. We wouldn't mind a few less wrinkles and other trivial perks that come with being twenty, but we wouldn't trade the lessons and the joys that graced us during the years between twenty and forty. I'd like to think that we are wiser at forty than we were at twenty. The true test is if we have learned to enjoy whatever age we happen to be and not waste a moment trying to go backwards.

Jock Itch Information

The Symptoms of Jock Itch and How to Treat it and Athlete's Foot

Jock itch usually affects male athletes, but it can happen to anyone. It is a form of ringworm it is a fungal infection on the outer layers of the skin, hair and nails, but it is not a worm. A ring worm is a rash that is red, peeling and has bumps on it that looks like blisters on the top of it.

This rash can be really itchy and it can spread very rapidly, you can get athletes foot and this rash at the same time. Jock itch is cause by fungus and it grows with warm and moist conditions, it can appear on the groin, inner thighs and buttocks.

The rash and athletes foot can occur at the same time because both are caused by fungi and being around swimming pools, showers, wet floors, steamy rooms, wearing sweaty workout clothes all cause this skin condition to occur.

According to WebMd.com the symptoms of jock itch are:

- Itching and pain
- A rash on the groin, skin folds, inner thighs or buttocks. The rash usually does not appear on the scrotum or the penis.
- The rash maybe scaly and looks like it has blisters on it.
- The center of the rash may have a red or brown color

When you go to the doctor, he will ask some questions and examine the rash area, then he will scrape a little of the rash off onto to a small glass slide. It can be treated with some anti-fungal creams or powders without a prescription. Here are steps on treating the infection:

Wash the area with soap and water; apply the anti-fungal cream well beyond the infected area.

Make sure you use an anti-fungal cream or powder that has terbinafine, or miconazole. These name brand creams are great, Lamisil, Lotrimin, and Monistat.

In rare cases the ringworm can have a large area of blisters, you can treat this by using Burow's compress without a prescription it will soothe and dry out the blisters. You can prevent jock itch and athlete's foot by:

Pulling off your sweaty clothes after a workout

Take a shower to prevent fungus from growing

Keep your jocks clean and do not wear wet clothes for a long period of time this will give the fungus a great opportunity to begin.

Wear shower shoes when using public showers and locker rooms.

If you have athlete's foot, put your socks on before you put on your underwear, this can prevent the spread of the fungus.

If you keep getting athlete's foot dry your feet off last after a shower to prevent the infection from spreading to your groin.

Home Fitness Gym - No Longer the Rusty Old Machine

As many of you may remember the home fitness gym of years ago was probably taking up the majority of space in a garage and the equipment was old and rusty. You might have wanted to make sure you had your last Tetanus shot before going out in the hot garage for a rusty old workout.

Well times have certainly changed. Today you may find state of the art pieces of equipment or not a single use of expensive equipment. In either case you can still achieve ultimate physical fitness with the focus on core body fitness.

As many have probably heard about or possibly purchased the P90x system is a new home workout system that focuses on core body fitness with few pieces of affordable home workout equipment. With just a couple of barbells and a workout rubber band you can have a six pack in no time. Well, let's not got that far as it all takes time, right?

Most fitness experts recommend some type of weight resistance along with cardio equipment to have a home gym. Now this can be the start of a very expensive shopping spree since major exercise systems with weight stacks can cost at least $1,000. Then, on the cardio front, a treadmill or elliptical machine can run $1,000 and an exercise bike will even run $500. You can't tell me we are still in the age of spending thousands of dollars on equipment that will likely be doubling as a clothes line, are we?

Before jumping on the home fitness bandwagon one major consideration that must be addressed is diet. As we all know the vast majority of our results is what goes in our mouth. Are we really ready to give up the daily desert or midnight snack? If not, this could be a waste of time and money.

This leads us into the ever dreaded but so important topic of goal setting. If we can't (or maybe won't is more like it) set goals we are going to be in trouble. Goal setting is very cliche and it's all we hear about when it comes to fitness, or work, or simply life in general. But, you can't argue that people who set goals get better results. Perhaps we just need to sit down and do it and not make such a fuss about it.

A good question some may be asking is how do I get away from the TV, cell phone, kids at home, pets at home, the neighbor at the door, etc. and get a workout done. Well you do need to limit distractions as these workout intruders and sure to show their ugly faces otherwise. A good way to limit these distractions is to have an isolated area for the home gym. Now, you don't need a full on room dedicated to the gym but you need an area that lets you get the job done.

So we have our equipment, limited our distractions and are eating good but after a few days it's getting OLD. What to do? There are several things to do. Pick up a workout buddy. Drag your neighbor or relative off the couch and make them join you. Maybe pay them a few bucks to do so. The buddy system works here. You can also find affordable DVD's that you follow and those keep you going. And maybe that TV distraction isn't such a bad thing when you have five more minutes of jogging in place to do. Now that sounds like a good idea.

To expand on jogging in place you don't need big bucks for a killer home gym. Let me repeat that. You don't need thousands of dollars for a home gym. Barbells and rubber bands are cheap. A garage sale can get you a cheap bench as well. Further, walking, running in place, push-ups and crunches are all equipment free and great exercises. Finally, if you have a young one in the house glued to that gaming system perhaps the Wii Fitness joins your arsenal of workout tools and you can also have some quality time with the kids.
